Discover Suffolk, VA  

     Suffolk took its  name from Suffolk County in England and began as Nansemond County in 1646.  In 1742 it was founded as Suffolk and in 1974 as the consolidated city of Suffolk.  The consolidated city of Suffolk consists of the towns of Holland, Whaleyville, and the county of Nansemond.  The Suffolk we know today consists of 430 square miles of beautiful woods, lakes, rivers and rolling terrain.  It's land size makes it the largest in the state and 11th largest in the nation.  

     Suffolk is a progressive city that is attracting new growth and  businesses.  In fact Suffolk is already home to some of the regions most prosperous companies.   In 1912 an Italian immigrant named Amedeo Obici opend Planters Peanut and Chocolate Company and today Suffolk remains a major peanut processing center and transporation hub.
