A favorite among locals and visitors alike, this aquarium will keep the family busy for hours with it´s numerous exhibits, an IMAX movie theatre, aviary and nature trail.
- No. 2 The Cape Henry Lighthouse
The Cape Henry Lighthouse is located in Fort Story, a military base at the North End of Virginia Beach. The beacon was built in 1972 to make travel safer through the Chesapeake Bay and thereby improve trade. Locals and visitors who climb the many lighthouse steps will be rewarded with 360-degree, scenic views.

Ocean Breeze Water Park opens Memorial Day-that´s how we know the summer has begun in Virginia Beach-and closes Labor Day-awww, the summer is over3; to keep friends and families cool and entertained for the entire day, the Water Park features 16 slides, a wave pool, and a water park.
- No. 4 Mount Trashmore
Which park in Virginia Beach features a skate park, nature trails, volleyball and basketball courts, picnic tables, covered shelters, ample parking, and many other amenities? That´s right, Mount Trashmore! Unless you were clued in by the name, you would never know that this incredible park was built by alternating layers of compacted waste and clean soil-the result of which is a full-blown, 165-acre activity park. It is an environmental dream where you can learn to grow an amazing garden using very little water, called xeriscaping.

First Landing State Park, formerly Seashore State Park, boasts 2,700 acres of protected habitat wetland and coastal habitat. The park is a great place to leave the city while you´re in the city! You can go for a run, walk, bike ride, or even launch your boat-no wonder it was ranked as one the nation´s best state parks and draws over a million visitors each year!
- No. 6 Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum
The Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum is localted at the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach. Since it was built in 1895 it has been recording the history of local birds, especially waterfowl, and Virginia Beach in general-this is a span over a hundred years! Check out the duck carvings-the on-site carving demonstrations will make you want to whittle your own.

The Boardwalk at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront features a 3-mile stretch of wide sidewalk and a parellel bike path that borders the beautiful, wide beach. Because of the wide variety of people from all over the world, the three Oceanfront stages, pier, games, restaurants and nightclubs, & fireworks, it is the most entertaining place in the area. It is a great place to be morning, noon, and night!

There are many golf courses in Virginia Beach, with several that are world-class--Hell's Point, Cypress Point, and TPC of Virginia Beach lead the way, but there are other courses including the City of Virginia Beach´s own golf courses, Red Wing, Kempsville Greens, Honey Bee, and Bow Creek. There are boat docks on the Back Bay side and glorious secluded beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Virginia Beach SchoolsThe Virginia Beach City Public Schools serves approximately 68,751 students (as of Sept. 30, 2008) from kindergarten through 12th grade. There are 57 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, 11 high schools, and a number of secondary/post-secondary specialty centers. Virginia Beach also offers gifted programs, magnet schools, and year round schools.
Virginia Beach Military ConnectionThe military plays a major role in Virginia Beach´s economy. The bases include Oceana, Little Creek, Fort Story and Dam Neck. Oceana Naval Air Station is the largest Master Jet Base in the US and employs 12,000. Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base has 13,000 employees, Fort Story employs 1200 (both military and civilian) and Dam Neck employs 4,7700.
In addition, the Military Exchanges and PX's have contributed $123.8 million in sales in 2002. These additional jobs, goods and services are a boon to our local economy.
